Description

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a critical aspect of healthcare that focuses on minimising the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and promoting patient and staff safety.

This programme has been designed in line with the National Health Service (NHS) Education for Scotland (NES) standards and the NHS National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM).

Designed to enable you to improve your knowledge and skills around infection prevention and control. You will cover topics such as the chain of infection, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), dealing with spillages and much more.

The programme is approximately 1.5 hrs in length and has been split into 3 modules each containing multiple simulations:

For a more detailed look at the contents of each module, please explore the bundle contents below.

Learning objectives

  • Our Infection Prevention and Control Learning Programme will take you through the foundational knowledge of IPC
  • In our first Learning Module, ‘Introduction to Infection Prevention and Control‘, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of HAIs, and each link in the Chain of Infection. You will learn how to break the chain at each point, and identify the risks of not observing correct IPC practices
  • Our second Learning Module, ‘Infection Prevention Control and Me‘, covers how you can protect yourself and those in your care from infection through the use of preventative and protective measures. Learn and practice the correct hand hygiene technique, identify and wear the correct PPE for different situations, respond to occupational exposure incidents at work, and more
  • Our third Learning Module, ‘Infection Prevention Control and Residents‘, details procedures to follow that help keep residents safe. You will learn to identify and isolate potentially infectious residents, and correctly and safely respond to blood or bodily fluid spillages that can occur in care environments
  • Our final Learning Module in the Infection Prevention and Control Learning Programme, ‘Infection Prevention Control and the Environment‘ will launch soon and be included in this learning bundle at no additional cost. This Learning Module will focus on the prevalence of germs on frequently used objects in a care environment, and how to safely and correctly dispose of waste and linen that may be soiled or contain infectious micro-organisms
