The Confined Spaces Safety Training is a structured, competency-based learning experience that equips workers with the essential knowledge and practical awareness to safely enter, work in, and exit confined spaces. Delivered through an interactive, scenario-driven format, it guides learners step by step through the procedures, equipment, and hazard controls required by safe work systems and WHS legislation. The training promotes both compliance and understanding — ensuring learners can not only follow procedures but also recognize why each precaution matters.
The course begins by defining what constitutes a confined space — emphasizing limited ventilation, restricted access, and hazardous atmospheres — before moving through the sequence of safe work preparation. This includes completing work permits, conducting Job Safety Assessments (JSAs), isolating energy sources, performing gas testing, setting up ventilation, and equipping rescue systems. Each element reinforces the principles of risk identification and control, consistent with the hierarchy of hazard management and standard WHS practice.
The second half of the training focuses on correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), identification of confined space hazards, and assessment through hands-on decision-making tasks. Learners engage with realistic safety scenarios — from PPE selection to gas monitoring — and observe the consequences of incorrect choices in a controlled environment. This design builds both cognitive understanding and behavioural safety competence, ensuring participants finish the module capable of applying their knowledge confidently on-site.
